The Story of This Rug

Mamluk rugs reached maturity in 15th- and 16th-century Cairo workshops and became one of the finest examples of Islamic art through their octagonal medallions and geometric mosaic layouts. Following the Mamluk Sultanate, this composition traveled through Anatolia and Persia into Central Asia; today, Afghan weavers are bringing the Mamluk tradition to life again through a Chobi interpretation on botanically dyed wool.

Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug

  1. Each rug is made by a single weaving team; an identical reproduction is not possible.
  2. 100% Ghazni sheep's wool resists stains naturally thanks to its lanolin and develops a patina over the years.
  3. Unlike synthetic colors, botanical root and bark dyes soften and mellow over time.
  4. The asymmetrical Persian knot creates a dense, durable weave.
  5. The natural washed finish gives the rug an antique texture and a soft hand.

Color and Pattern

A madder-red octagonal medallion sits at the center of the light petrol blue field, surrounded by small rosette and star squares arranged in a mosaic layout. A palmette chain composition frames the design in the border, while ivory corner pieces lend elegance to the composition.

Care Recommendations

  • Clean once a week with a low-powered vacuum without a brush attachment.
  • Blot stains gently with a damp white cloth; do not rub.
  • Have it inspected by a professional rug cleaner every 3–4 years.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight and use a rug pad.

Received as a numbered original work, this rug is a one-of-a-kind piece bearing the weaver's signature.

Protect Your Rug’s Elegance
A careful care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations—pieces that add value to your living space—for generations to come.

Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, remove the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only—never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.

Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent uneven color changes (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.

Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Delicate materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.

Washing Instructions
The delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models clearly marked “Washable” in their names may be washed in household machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
